Fab post. Made me subscribe! 👍 I find Pinterest is great for the algorithm dopamine hit (good for merch too as it’s full of shoppers!). Instagram not so much. Too many hoops to jump through for little reward.
I’ve been doing a 3 month trial of posting every day and seeing what the results are like. It’s slow to start but you get thousands of views within a few months and then you start to see the clicks coming through. Apparently it’s very popular with Gen Z now which I was surprised to hear. It does seem to be the place for selling digital assets and merch though. It’s evergreen content and more like a search engine than social media.
This is an interesting suggestion! Never even considered Pinterest. But also another part of my brain thinks 'for the love of GOD please don't add another website to your list of places to endlessly post comics...'
Haha! Yep, can sympathise with that! 😆 Maybe just stick with the merchandise on there instead as it is best suited for people shopping online? You can schedule 10 posts a time within the platform and it’s evergreen content so it doesn’t vanish after a few hours. It’s a search engine more than social media platform. Just make sure you link to your store on each Pin. It takes me an hour to schedule up to 10 pins a week. 👍
You should hook up with a magazine online that deals with ux issues like smashing magazine does and have them host your strip so you get more exposure for it.
Funnily enough, Smashing mag contacted me about this a couple of years ago, and when I dared to ask if it was a paid thing, they ghosted me and I never heard anything back again.
OMG. This. Wow. This one is for real. Good one. This hit close to home. I have a tiny side hustle of surface art that I try to promote and it's basically useless. Honestly I found you here on substack somehow and one time was actually going to post one of your comics online on IG to promote your strip because it was so funny, and then had the thought to LOOK for you on IG first! - found you- and started to follow. You were never placed into my feed! I had no idea you had an IG!!!! but glad I found it. The algorithm is weird. Seems TikTok is better 🤷♀️

Wow I had thought Pinterest was dead. I'll have to go back to it. TY

Considering people change all the time at smashing magazine I'd try it again just to see what happens. it never hurts to try my friend.
I won't lie man, this one hurt.
interesting and fun one. Love it
Crikey yes, this resonates.

Cool! A little scary 😁
Truth!
Now lets poop into the abyss....
Does that help?
No, but it feels better somehow.
